![]() ![]() My injector flow bench doesn't provide the kind of control that's suited for determining dead time, but now I have an ECU to play with that can be configured to spit out a particular number of pulses of a specified width. The injector will take a lot longer to open if your battery output sags to 8 volts during cranking, than it does when the alternator is putting out 14 volts. What makes it trickier is that the dead time varies with voltage. It's important because, if the ECU calculates a 2.0 millisecond (ms) injector pulse, but the injector requires 1.0 ms to open, the effective pulse will be only 1 ms long. One piece of information that the tuner may have a hard time finding is the time it takes an injector to open, sometimes called the dead time, or offset. ![]()
